EFL ESL Weather songs for children | my 10 favorites

Kids tefl esl weather songs

Weather is something we always talk about in class with kids. It is something that children notice and are interested in and as it changes so often there are always lots of different things to say about it. EFL ESL Weather songs for children are a great way of learning about the weather in English. They can be used both during a class that is concentrating entirely on learning about the weather in English but also at the beginning of a normal class as part of a Hello routine. There are dozens of songs about the weather but these are my favorites and the ones I have found most useful in my classes. So here, they are, my 10 favorite EFL ESL weather songs for children.

What’s the Weather Like Today by The Kiboomers

This is a great general song about weather and the different activities you can do in each kind of weather. So, when it’s windy you can fly a kite, when it’s sunny you can go swimming and so on. This is a good song to use at the beginning of lessons to get the kids to tell you what the weather is like and what they’re going to do that day. You can change and adapt the activities to things they like to do and practice different actions for each type of weather, using it as a base for discussion.

Weather Song for Kids: The Sun Comes Up! by Dream English Kids

Another good general weather song for children that you could use in lots of different types of classes. This is a simple song for smaller children with lots of actions so they can learn about the weather. It’s easy to follow and to sing for little kids and is a great introduction to weather vocabulary like cloudy, rainy, sunny and snowy. The actions make the vocabulary easy to remember and, if you sing it at the start of every lesson, your children will soon be able to tell you what the weather is like each time.

How’s the Weather Song by Maple Leaf Learning

Maple Leaf Learning’s songs are always really funny and kids love them. This is no exception and is a fun song to sing along with for all ages. The children can practice giving different answers to the question and it’s another song which is really good to sing at the beginning of class. If you’re doing a whole lesson concentrating on the weather, Maple Leaf Learning have also made an International Weather Report video which every class I have watched it with have always found absolutely hilarious.

How is the weather today? by Happy Sam

The last of my general EFL weather songs for children, this practices the different kinds of weather as well as some simple adjectives and feelings associated with them. So, it’s raining, I’m wet and it’s sunny, I’m hot. It has a cute stick man video to watch too so the children can understand the different adjectives. Get your class to say how they feel when they are talking about the weather and use different adjectives.

Singing in the Rain Song by The Learning Station

Get your kids singing and dancing in the rain with lots of different actions to follow and a dance routine that gets gradually longer and more complicated. This song is a lot of fun for older kids and a good way to cheer them up on a dreary day and get them moving and practicing their English. Bonus points if you can get them to wear a silly hat and do the whole routine without looking at the instructions in the video.

Rain Rain Go Away Super Simple Songs

Another great song and video from Super Simple Songs, this tells the story of a family closed in the house on a rainy day, wishing they could go and play outside. It is the perfect way to revise the different members of the family and what they want to do and is a very simple song for little children to sing along with. Make up some actions to go with the words and you can easily sing it without the music too.

Here Comes the Snow by Mobilemusic4kids

This is an amazing song if you have a class who really love singing and want something to get their teeth into. The vocabulary isn’t too complicated but the music is fantastic and you could make it as easy or fancy as you wanted. It would be a brilliant song to do for a winter show for parents or other classes and your class could give a really impressive performance. It also teaches a lot of useful vocabulary about snow and how to describe a snowy day.

Little Snowflake by Super Simple Songs

Possible the cutest of all of the very cute songs and videos by Super Simple Songs, if this doesn’t bring a lump to your throat and a tear to your eye, you are beyond all redemption. This would also be a fantastic song to use in a winter show for the little kids and would have all the parents crying. Not only is it very sweet, but it also practices parts of the body and you can use a lot of TPR when you’re singing it with your class to help them learn and remember it even better.

It’s a Beautiful Day by Sim

This is another lovely song for groups who like singing. It’s a feel-good, happy song for singing on a sunny day and talking about all the things we like to do in the sun. Probably easiest for slightly older groups but I think little ones could probably cope with it too if you teach them lots of actions and show pictures or the video to help them understand the words.

Sun, Rain, Wind and Snow by The Singing Walrus

A lovely song to finish off with that goes through all the fun things to do in all kinds of weather and the good things about the different kinds of weather. So if your kids are feeling grumpy because it’s raining again, this is a great way to show them positive things. Sing it together and make them feel better.
