We’re off to the beach for my Top 10 EFL ESL Beach songs for kids.
Let’s go to the Beach by Maple Leaf Learning
I use this song in all my summertime lessons. Although the song is really about sea animals at the beach, you can change the words to make it about anything you want. So you could use it for things you can see at the beach, beach activities, beach equipment or anything else really. It’s easy to sing along to and the tune is catchy so the kids will easily remember it. This is a great way to learn a list of vocabulary and help your class really remember it.
Summer Song for Kids by The Singing Walrus
What do you like to do in the summer? How many fun activities can you think of? This song covers you for all your summer lessons. Not just beach activities, although there are lots, but also hiking, biking and lots more. Adapt it to the beach activities you want to teach in your lesson and see how many more your class can think of.
Down at the Beach by Music K-8 and Ms Utz
Another song that you can use to teach activities to do at the beach. This would be an amazing song to do at an end of year show or a parents meeting. It’s easy to sing along to and you can add as many different activities and actions as you want. You just need a few beach accessories and get the parents and kids dancing on the beach together for a fun beach themed show.
The Going to the Beach Song! by Scratch Garden
This song is very funny and will make older kids laugh. It’s basically a list of everything you need to take to the beach on a day out plus a few extras. DON’T FORGET THE SUNSCREEN! Your older classes will have a lot of fun shouting out to their partner what not to forget. You can probably make a whole game out of this. Don’t forget the sandwiches. I’ve got the sandwiches. Use flashcards or realia and get the class to pack their bags to go to the beach.
In the Summer | On the Beach by Kids Songs – Nursery Rhymes
A very British seaside day out song and video with lots of things to see and do at the beach. The chorus is very easy to sing along with and, if you’re watching the video too, the kids will love to see other children doing fun things at the beach. You could use it as a prompt for a lesson practicing I like and I don’t like or just to learn beach vocabulary.
Over the Deep Blue Sea by Super Simple Songs
Weather, directions, pirates, seaside. This song practices a variety of vocabulary and can be used in lots of different lessons. I’ve used it this year in my Pirate Treasure Hunt lesson plan and I’ll be using it again in my Beach lessons to talk about weather.
Lilo and Stitch | Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride | Disney Sing-Along by Disney
How about learning some surfing vocabulary? This Disney song from the Lilo and Stitch movie has lots of it as well as some words in Hawaiian too that it would be fun to learn if you were doing a surfing themed lesson. Make and decorate surf boards and then then learn how to use them with your class. Or turn your classroom into a tropical paradise and have a tropical picnic and surfing games. This would be such a fun lesson!
In the Big Blue Sea – Counting Song by KidsTV123
Let’s practice counting fish. Or anything else you can see at the beach. This is a good song for little children to practice counting from 1 to 10 and practice beach vocabulary. If you’ve got flashcards with different numbers of objects you can find at the beach, you can adapt it to those. Or if you’ve made a beach in your classroom, you can use it to practice counting what you can see there.
The Swimming Song by The Learning Station
More about the swimming pool than the beach but you can change the lyrics to adapt it. This is great fun to practice all the things you do when you’re swimming. A really good song to get a class of older kids moving and to learn some new and practical vocabulary. I think any class will enjoy doing all the actions to this and it might be especially good fun to do this one outside as part of an outdoors summer lesson.
Five Little Sandcastles by Singing Hands
Another fun counting song for very little children. Starting from five little sandcastles on the beach, one by one they get washed away by the sea until there are none left. You could make this a lot of fun with lots of actions. Let the kids take turns being the sandcastles getting washed away. The rest of the class could be the sea rushing towards the beach and the sandcastles and counting down from 5 to 0.
