Summer is my favorite time of the year. Warm weather, holidays, time to spend outside and lots of fun things to do. These are my favorite songs for children to learn all about summer. We’ll look at summer time activities and clothes as well as summer weather, nature and food. As I’ve already written lots of beach themed activities, I haven’t included many songs specifically about the seaside. But even if you’re not going to the beach or on holiday, you’ll find something fun to do with your class with all these summer time activities. So get your sunglasses and let’s go outside and play with my Top 10 EFL ESL summer songs for children.
Summer Song for Kids by The Singing Walrus
There are so many things to do in the summer, whether you are at the beach, in the countryside or in town. This song will help your class learn all about these different activities. What so your students like to do in the summer? If they had to plan a holiday, where would they choose to spend it and what would they like to do? You could make a great classroom wall poster with the three different locations and the different things you can do in each place. Let the kids write a postcard from their chosen location describing their holiday there.
Summer Song for Kids by Easy Monkey Songs
Goodbye school and hello holidays! This is a great song to sing at the end of the school year when you are getting ready for the summer holidays. What do your class want to do during the holidays. Practice the future tense with your older classes and get them to make plans for what they will do and where they will go. Adapt my New Year resolutions lesson plan and play a game of cannons, hearts and bombs with their different plans.
Mr Golden Sun by Super Simple Songs
What is the weather like in summer? If you’re lucky, it’s warm and sunny and you can go outside and play just like in this song. This would be a good introduction to a weather topic for smaller children. What is the weather like today? Is the sun shining today? What can we do in the sunshine? What clothes do we wear when it’s sunny? You could also use it as part of a project to learn about the sun with older children, combining science and art too.
In the Summer by Kids Songs – Nursery Rhymes – Mini Disco
This song and video is mainly about going to the beach but it is such a good illustration of a really traditional summer day at the seaside that I’ve included it here with my EFL ESL summer songs for children too. You could use it as part of a beach party lesson at the end of term or in any other seaside themed lesson. Let your class plan a day at the beach. What do they need to take? Can they make a list of what they will bring and wear? What will they eat? And what will they do there? You could make this in to a role play or even a quiz about the seaside. Then set up your own classroom beach for a picnic.
BBQ Song by Maple Leaf Learning
What is your favorite food to eat in the summer? As well as a lot of ice cream, I also love having a barbecue with friends or family. With this song, you can learn all about the different food you can cook on a barbecue. Maybe you could even organize one with your class. If you can’t have a real one, you could do a role play and let the kids order what food they want from a menu and then pretend to prepare it. You could also make models of the food they want to cook. If you like cooking with your class, you can find lots of other ideas here.
So Much Fun in the Summer by DJ Kids
What can you do to have fun in the summer? There are so many different activities in this song. What are your students’ favorite things to do in the summer? Do they prefer to go to the beach or go camping in the mountains? Get them to ask each other questions about what they like to do? Or play summer fun bingo with different things to do. Can they ask other students questions to find the person that has done the most of these activities?
I Love Summer by ELF Learning
This is a simple but useful song for learning summer time activity vocabulary. What other activities can you think of to do in the summer. Don’t forget to use lots of actions and TPR when you’re learning all these different activities. Then play an action game to help the kids remember them. Ask them to plan a typical summer routines day with all the activities they will do. How is it different from their daily routine during the school year?
Summer Time by Mr R’s Songs for Teachers
Learn about nature in summer with this song. What animals and birds can you see in summer in your country? What about plants and flowers? If you can take your class outside, you could have a scavenger hunt and take photos or draw pictures of all the different things you can see. Then have an exhibition in class of the drawings and let each student describe theirs to the rest of the class.
Boom Chicka Boom Summer Dance Song for Kids by TheLearningStation
Get the kids up and moving with this summer time action song. One of a large collection of differently themed chicka boom dances, kids always love this song. So get ready to bounce a ball, jump a rope, go swimming, blow bubbles and lots more summer themed actions. If you’ve got space to do this with lots of people, it would be really fun to do as part of a summer party, maybe for the end of year show with all the parents and teachers joining in.
In the Summer Sun by Kid Song English
This is a fun repeating song about the summer and things to do. This would be another good song to do in a big group and you could split the class in half and get one half to do the repeating part. Don’t forget to do lots of actions too. Alternatively you could act out the song for parents or other classes, maybe as part of a show.
